Five Things You Should Be Doing On Your Snow Day

For most of the state of Georgia today is a snow day. Many schools have been closed and places of business have told their workers not to report. Today most of us will spend the entire day from sun up to sun down in the house. As a child snow days meant cartoons, sleeping in and taking
advantage of 24 hours to do absolutely nothing. The last metro-Atlanta snow day which was just two short weeks ago was a child's snow day for me. I spent the day on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. When I wasn't weeding through debates over the weather and the lack of public transportation I was in front of the television getting caught up on my trash TV.

If you've been following me for any length of time you know I'm a stickler for self-care and me time, but as day one trickled into day two and three I because increasing disappointed in myself. I accomplished nothing. I'm always saying that if I had two more hours in a day I could accomplish so
much, but did I...? So that weekend I came up with a list of things that I could do during the next snow day. Just in case you're home today I thought I'd share it with you. If you're not home save it, it might come in handy one day.

Does the EEOC Protect You From Unethical Employer Retaliation

Imagine This...

You land your dream job. The skills and qualifications required are a perfect match with your credentials and experiences. The hiring manager describes an opportunity to build something from scratch. You are walking into a brand new initiative that you get to create based on your knowledge and expertise. You are the expert. You have arrived.

From day one there is an obvious disconnect between you and your supervisor. You're not quite sure how to put your finger on it, but you notice a few subtle things: your supervisor doesn't reply to emails and when he does there is a not-so-inviting tone; he sends information to other team members, but often "forgets" to include you; he laughs and is very cordial with older members of the team, but is very formal and stand-offish with your communications. You've obviously not one of his favorite people.

Selfishly Happy

Selfishly Happy

A couple of weeks ago I made a comment about being "selfishly happy." I confessed that I made the decision a little more than a year ago to be selfishly happy and every moment since then has been better than the last. People seemed to connect with the statement and I was pleased that I allowed myself to be vulnerable and share a little of myself. Then, after the dust settled, the questions started pouring in. I was asked, time and time again what exactly it means to be selfishly happy. People said it sound so good, but after they read the statement they didn't know what to do with it. Someone even asked, when is selfish ever a good thing? So I thought I'd put a little meat on the bones of my statement and explain what selfishly happy means to me.
